Lets talk about vaccinations!!!!
THE FIRST 3 PUPPY VACCINATIONS ARE ABSOLUTELY NECCESARY AND HAVE NO CONSIDERABLE SIDE EFFECTS.
Marie and I are NOT anti-vaccers. But in saying that we know over vaccination does take some of our beloved pets.
The gist of the two links here is that you do the 3 puppy vaccinations; we all agree on this. Then you do a one year booster and then you vaccinate every 3 years. This is the official position of the Australian Veterinary Association. After reading these two statements I think to booster every 5 years is probably still very safe. Marie and I now even question the first yearly booster but I will not advise against AVA official policy.
We stopped yearly vaccination some years back and instead titre tested for the appropriate anti bodies. In dozens of tests we did not find a situation where a booster was necessary so we have not bothered for a few years. Think about human vaccination regimes; would you go and get a polio or diphtheria injection just to be sure?
The information about core vaccinations is interesting. Take leptospirosis for example. It is spread by the ingestion of something contaminated with rodent urine. We advise people not to leave dry food out for dogs to graze. This is one of the addition benefits but the truth is it is just bad practise. For most people Lepto vacs is a waste of money.
Talk to your Vet, people's circumstances are all different and this needs to be considered. Just be aware over vaccination of dogs is serious and you need to be aware of its possible tragic side effects. Yearly vaccinations are now a thing of the past.
